Prairie Roots Tattoo Co.

Can be found on Ross st in downtown Red Deer.

Before your appointment:

Please eat a good meal! Get a good sleep the night before. We don’t recommend drinking in the 24hr period before your tattoo because of how it thins the blood and can lead to your body not healing well. Please bring: Clean skin, comfy clothes, snacks and drinks if you need them. You might be sitting for a while, feel free to bring something to do (as long as it doesn’t make you wiggle or want to dance around), headphones, movies, books etc

I will, of course, be my entertaining self.

Aftercare

Second Skin: is a clear, medical grade, waterproof/breathable adhesive bandage. Please let me know if you have ever had an adhesive/latex allergy. This bandage can be kept on for 24 hrs to 5 days.

It is perfectly normal for some plasma and ink to build up under the surface of the Second Skin, just allow your skin to reabsorb this. However, if you find a leak remove and follow the cleaning instructions below.

To remove bandage simply run under warm water in the shower, pull the Second Skin parallel to the skin, not straight up. Wash gently with anti bacterial soap and pat dry with a clean towel.

*If you have redness or itching in the first 24 hrs remove the bandage right away and rinse with warm water and wash with antibacterial soap. You may be one of the chosen who is allergic to the adhesive used in Second Skin.

Let air dry for 24 hrs. After that apply a thin layer of unscented, non-petroleum based moisturizer may be used sparingly until scabbing is gone and the skin returns to its “pre-tattooed” condition.

Wash once or twice daily with mild, unscented soap and lotion *if needed.

Stay out of sunlight & tanning booths, hot tubs, saunas, and avoid swimming until tattoo is completely healed. Approximately 2 weeks. Showering is fine.

Dry Heal: If you do have an allergy to Second Skin, or you simply prefer a dry heal you will be bandaged with a ‘meat’ type bandage. Keep this on for 24hrs. Then follow cleaning instructions above.

Do not

Rub, pick, scratch your tattoo. Loss of ink or infection may occur. Slap your tattoo gently to relieve itching.

Extreme sun exposure over the years can and will fade your tattoo. An SPF of at least 15 can help minimize that.

As it heals… tips and tricks

My personal go-to since I have children and pets that are always bumping into me, is to keep a bottle of Bactine spray around. Great for in case hair touches a healing tattoo or a kid pokes it. The lidocaine also numbs the skin a bit if you have discomfort. Once the skin fully scabs this isn’t as much of an issue.

Try to keep the scab from rubbing off under clothing etc loose clothing is your friend.
